Cause Of Deadly U.S. Aircraft Disaster Under Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is too soon to speculate the cause of the crash.

All 67 people involved in the midair collision between an army helicopter and an American Airlines flight are presumed dead. The accident occurred Wednesday night.

A passenger jet was preparing to land at the Ronald Reagan National Airport while a Black Hawk military helicopter was traveling along a route. The two collided sending both aircrafts into the Potomac River.

At least 28 bodies, including all three soldiers aboard the helicopter have since been pulled from the icy waters as recovery operations continue.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is too soon to speculate the cause of the crash at this time. It is expected to release a report within 30 days.

Investigators have recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from the plane. They have been sent to labs for evaluation in hopes to discover more.
