Honda And Nissan Announce Plans For Possible Merger
The companies aim to have a formal merger agreement by June and to complete the deal by August of 2026.
Honda and Nissan announced plans to work toward a merger.
The Japanese companies will host talks over the next six months regarding the possible move.
The deal would create the world’s third-largest automaker and give the companies more resources to compete with a growing threat from Chinese carmakers.
Mitsubishi, which is already in an alliance with Nissan, will also participate in the discussions.
Honda’s president said Honda and Nissan will attempt to unify their operations under a joint holding company.
Honda will lead the new management, retaining the principles and brands of each company.
They aim to have a formal merger agreement by June and to complete the deal by August of 2026.
Discussions are in beginning stages and no dollar value has been announced at this time.
