LAKE CITY: Mrs. Freddie Flowers Brockington, 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 in her home after a long illness. Mrs. Brockington was born in Carver‘s Creek, North Carolina on September 18th, 1925. She was a daughter of the late James Edgar Flowers and Lillie Williamson Flowers, and was the wife of Samuel Keels Brockington, Sr. of Lake City. Mrs. Brockington was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School and obtained her degree in Business Administration from Motts Business College in Wilmington, North Carolina. She worked for Atlantic Coastline Railway in Wilmington, was bookkeeper for many years for Bowen‘s Big Brick Warehouse in Lake City, and was member of Lake City United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend a very special and heart-felt “thank you” to caregiver, Ms. Roy Lee McKenzie, the staff of Comfort Keepers and to McLeod Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Mrs. Brockington in her times of need. Mrs. Brockington‘s surviving family includes her husband, Samuel Keels Brockington, Sr., of the home; her two children, Samuel Keels Brockington, Jr. (Nancy), and Jane Harrell (Floyd), both of Lake City; her grandchildren, Bess B. Bluestein (Brett), of Charleston, S. Aaron Brockington (Ashley), of Lake City; Annalise Brockington, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Edward Brockington, of New York, New York, Eleanor Brockington, of Charleston, and Emily and Wesley Harrell, both of Lake City; her sister, Dorothy F. Elliot, of Florence; and her two brothers, Edgar Flowers (Mary Louise), of Baxley, Georgia, and David Flowers (Cleo), of Wilmington, North Carolina. Mrs. Brockington is preceded in death by her two brothers, James Gillespie Flowers and Elkanah Flowers. The family of Mrs. Brockington will have visitation from five until seven o‘clock p.m., Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 in the funeral home. Funeral services for Mrs. Brockington will be held at eleven o‘clock a.m., Thursday, December 16th, 2010 in the Lake City United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Lake City Cemetery.
