Judge Rejects Trump’s Bid To Toss Hush Money Conviction

Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan has refused to throw out Trump's conviction blocking one potential move to have the case dismissed.

A judge has rejected Trump’s bid to toss his hush money conviction because the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling.

Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan has refused to throw out Trump’s conviction blocking one potential move to have the case dismissed ahead of the former and future president’s return to office.

Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 hush money payment to Stormy Daniels in return for for her silence regarding an alleged sexual encounter.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

A month after his guilty verdict was delivered, the higher court ruled that ex-presidents can’t be prosecuted for actions they did in office.

However, Merchan denied Trump’s attempt to argue some of the prosecutors’ evidence related to official acts and implicated immunity protections.

Prosecutors said there should be some accommodation for Trump’s upcoming presidency, but said the conviction should stand.
