The Big Ten Conference announced fines for Michigan and Ohio State of $100,000 each.

The teams were fined for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy.

A fight broke out at midfield after the Wolverines’ 13-10 victory. Michigan players attempted to plant their flag on the Ohio State University logo prompting negativity.

The attempt prompted the Buckeyes to confront the Wolverines as police were forced to use pepper spray to break up the brawl.

One officer suffered a head injury when he was “knocked down and trampled while trying to separate the players.”

Ohio State said they respect the Big Ten’s decision and will continue to examine and address post-game protocols moving forward to ensure a safe field exit.

Michigan said they’ve got to handle rivalry games better, but did not further comment.

The fight was one of several that broke out Saturday in rivalry games across the country.
