Jack Smith Drops Cases Against President-Elect Donald Trump

Special Counsel Jack Smith moved to dismiss both of his cases against President-elect Donald Trump.
Smith is dropping his election interference and classified documents case, citing Department of Justice policy against prosecuting a sitting president.
Smith’s team said prior rulings regarding the constitution’s ban on federal indictment and prosecution of a sitting president applies to both cases.
The cases are being dismissed before the Trump is inaugurated.
However, the Justice Department will still be pursuing charges against Trump’s two co-defendants in the classified documents case.
