Trump Requests For One Of His Trials To Be Conducted In 2026
The trial is expected to last four to six weeks, which would carry it through the early presidential caucuses and primaries.
Former President Donald Trump is requesting for one of his trials to be conducted in April of 2026.
On Thursday, Trump’s lawyer proposed the federal trial on charges alleging he attempted to steal the last election be moved to 2026 in an attempt to postpone his four pending criminal cases until after his presidential bid.
Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith proposed to start the trial on January 2nd of next year, which would allow five months for Trump to review the evidence and debate pretrial motions.
The trial is expected to last four to six weeks, which would carry it through the early presidential caucuses and primaries.
Trump’s lawyers argued the government has had years to build a case and Trump must be granted adequate time to defend himself for a fair trial.
The former president is also facing several other upcoming trials in different cases.
