Georgetown Voters Approve Tax Referendums

The tax aims to fund a some specific capital projects to improve the health, safety and quality of life in the city.

Residents of Georgetown voted on two tax referendums Tuesday.

The votes decided on sales tax and capital improvement tax.

Majority of voters approved the capital projects sales tax with 51.03% voting in favor while 48.97% voted against.

The tax aims to fund a some specific capital projects to improve the health, safety and quality of life in the city.

It is estimated to bring in $10 million per-year across eight years.

The money will only be used to back projects on roads, bridges, public and recreation facilities, as well as water and sewer projects.

The tax will go into effect in May.

Each adds a one-cent tax on every dollar spent on items subject to sales tax.
