One Dead, 23 Others Rescued After Being Trapped In Colorado Tourist Mine

Mechanical issues with the elevator system left participants who were trapped 1,000 feet underground for six hours.

An elevator malfunction occurred at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine tourist mine in Colorado.

Around noon Thursday, the mine experienced a mechanical issue with its elevator system, causing severe danger for the participants who were trapped 1,000 feet underground for six hours.

As a result of the incident, one person died and 23 people were rescued. Among those were two were children and four were treated by medical personnel for minor injuries.

The cause of this incident remains under investigation.

The mine has been a family-owned tourist attraction for “well over 50 years.”

The last time they experienced an accident was in 1986. In that incident, two people were trapped in an elevator, but no fatalities were reported.
