John Ronald James died peacefully, surrounded by family at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, on December 2, 2010. Born in Hartsville, SC on July 19, 1939, he was the son of John Henry and Maude Melton James of Hartsville. Better known as Ronnie to his family and friends, he was retired from Nucor Steel of Darlington after having worked there for 24 years. Every conversation you would have with him would be about “my friend” and how much that friend would mean to him. His favorite time of the year was the Christmas Season. Ronnie had a twinkle in his eye that made him the perfect “Santa” for many youngsters to whom he gave gifts over the years. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth D. (Gary) Adams of Kingstree, SC; his many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry James; sisters, Cherrie Patricia Tyner, Betty Reid. The family wishes to thank his friend Wilhelmina “Willie” Catum for serving as his caregiver during his final months. Also, a special thank you to the staff of McLeod Hospice House for making his final hours comfortable.
