During the time people did not have access to power, an extreme heat wave prompted unusually high temperatures.

Nearly two weeks after Hurricane Beryl slammed into Houston, CenterPoint Energy says it has restored electricity to all of its customers.

Nearly three million homes, schools and businesses lost power during the Category 1 storm which made landfall on July 8. As of Monday, the company announced it has officially restored all power.

However, the storm’s death toll climbed, as at least 23 people died from storm related-causes. Those include heat illness, drowning, and injuries sustained during the storm and storm clean-up.

During the time people did not have access to power, an extreme heat wave prompted unusually high temperatures.

At least 13 of the reported deaths were linked to the prolonged power outage and caused by “environmental heat exposure.”

The updated death toll puts Beryl ahead of Hurricane Ike for total fatalities in the Houston area.
