Joseph Francis “Joe” Crowley

Joseph Francis “Joe” Crowley, 78, of Pinehurst, North Carolina, formerly of Princeton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2010, surrounded by family. Mr. Crowley was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 17, 1932 to the late Joseph F. Crowley and Alice Cherbuy Crowley of Quincy, Massachusetts. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a degree in Marketing and Advertising. Following college, he served for two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. Mr. Crowley then worked for over thirty years for BBDO Inc., an advertising agency in New York City, retiring as a Senior Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Crowley chaired the Board of Trustees of Stuart Country Day School in Princeton, New Jersey. He was President of the Board of Directors of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Valley United Way. He and his wife Ruth retired in 1994 to Pinehurst, where he was an active member of the Dynamic Duffers of Pinewild Golf Club. He is survived by Ruth, his beloved wife of 54 years; his sister Judith Crowley of Cary, North Carolina; his daughter Patricia Kostelancik of McLean, Virginia and her husband David; his daughter Elizabeth Randleman of Pinehurst, North Carolina and her husband Jeremy; and his five grandsons Timothy, Daniel, Benjamin, Owen and Ethan. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 on Thursday, October 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pinehurst, with the Rev. James M. Labosky officiating. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 27 at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Health Foundation or to First Health Hospice and Palliative Care of Pinehurst.
