Helen Thomas Evans
(Died October 22, 2010) FLORENCE: Mrs. Helen Nettles Thomas Evans, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, October 22nd, 2010 after a long illness. Mrs. Evans was born in Florence County on September 14th, 1922. She was a daughter of the late Johnny Ruben Nettles and the late Ruby Jordan Nettles. Mrs. Evans was first the widow of the late Henry J. Thomas, and then the late Jahue Evans. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was a long-time farmer. Mrs. Evans loved to plant and grow. She loved her flowers and her vegetable gardens. Mrs. Evans loved to take what she had grown and cook for her family. She was a loving and devoted mother who will be deeply missed by her children. Mrs. Evans surviving family includes her three children, Charles D. “Toby” Thomas (Rose), of Florence, Judy Elaine Huggins (Jerry), of Florence, and James H. Thomas (Nan), of Coward; her five grandchildren, Kathryn Ann Pace, of Barnsville, North Carolina, David Thomas, of Florence, Sharon Elaine Floyd, of Florence, Joseph C. “Joey” Huggins (Tamera), of Timmonsville, and Nicole Thomas Parkman (Mikey), of West Columbia; her seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ramona Kemper, of Manchester, Tennessee. Mrs. Evans is preceded in death by her four brothers, Jamie Nettles, Alex Nettles, Clifford T. Nettles, and Carol Nettles. The family of Mrs. Evans will have visitation from two until three o‘clock p.m., Monday, October 25th, 2010 in the funeral home. Funeral services for Mrs. Evans will be held at three o‘clock p.m., Monday, October 25th, 2010 in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery.
