Mary Elizabeth Locklear Reece
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Locklear Reece of Laurinburg passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the age of 89. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Earl Henderson and Rev. Donald Bullard. Burial will follow the service in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mary was born in Scotland County on June 2, 1921, daughter of the late James Franklin Locklear and Mary Jane McCall Locklear and step daughter of the late Bertha Richardson Locklear. She was the beloved wife of the late Cyrus T. Reece. Mary was a loving homemaker that dedicated her life to caring for her family and others. She was a lifelong faithful member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and very involved with the church youth. She also enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Spencer Locklear, John Locklear, Edward Locklear, Herman Locklear, Prentiss Locklear; sisters, Ada Locklear, Nellie Strickland, Ella Smith and Bertha Smith. Mary leaves behind her children, daughters, Martha Frances Locklear and husband James of Laurinburg, Inez R. Harris and husband Horace of Dunn; her son, Charles Reece and special friend Ellen Woodard of Laurinburg; brothers, Wilbert Locklear, Claudie Locklear and Lloyd G. Locklear all of Laurinburg; sisters, Edith Strickland of Laurinburg, Lois Early of High Point, Shelby Locklear and Velma Strickland both of Laurinburg; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21st at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
