UmaSofia Srivastava is giving up her crown less than eight months after winning the title.

The New Jersey teen shared her decision via Instagram Wednesday. She stated that her “personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organization.” She added that she is grateful for all the support and the experience of representing her state as a first generation, Mexican-Indian American at the national level.

However, she has vowed to continue her work as an advocate for “education and acceptance” with the Lotus Petal Foundation and the Bridge of Books Foundation.

Srivastava’s resignation announcement comes just days after Miss USA announced her own resignation.
