Two Bodies Recovered From Site Of Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse
Four people remain missing and are presumed dead.
Further details have emerged regarding the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
The bodies of two men were recovered Wednesday from the site of the collapse.
Four people remain missing and are presumed dead. However, recovery efforts were paused and the focus is now shifted to removing debris of the bridge.
The shift to clean up efforts was made as officials believe vehicles are buried in the rubble, which divers can no longer operate around.
The Navy is now mobilizing barges with cranes to help clear the water of debris.
The bridge collapse occurred after a 984-foot cargo ship lost power and collided into a pillar of the structure early Tuesday morning.
The pilot reportedly did “everything he could have done” to both slow the ship down and keep it from drifting toward the bridge, but couldn’t prevent the collision.
The six deceased people were construction workers who were filling potholes on the surface of the bridge at the time of the incident.
The collapse has indefinitely halted the flow of ships in and out of Baltimore.
