Timothy Lee Wilkins

Timothy Lee Wilkins, 46, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Carthage United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Plowman officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sinclair House (beside Church) immediately following the service. He attended Patterson Preparatory School and graduated from Pinecrest High School in 1982. He graduated from Brevard College where he won the Humanities Award in Film and Writing. He earned a B.A. degree from UNC-G. He spent his career as a journalist, writer and editor, garnering numerous state press awards. He was an avid outdoorsman, guitarist and lover of music. He is survived by his wife, Shari Wilkins; son Walker Wilkins; daughter, Olivia Eason of Dublin, GA; mother Carol Sparks of Carthage, NC; father Joe Herring of Savannah, GA; sisters Amanda Wilkins Shreve of Richmond, VA and Windi Wilkins Shewfelt of Okinawa, Japan; uncles Thomas Sparks of Carthage, NC and Richard Sparks of St. Louis, MO; aunt Saundra Pederson of Mossy Rock, WA and also five nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mental Health Association in North Carolina, 1331 Sunday Dr., Raleigh, NC 27607. Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines is serving the family.
