One Killed After Attempting To Interfere In Carjacking Situation

The suspect reportedly intentionally stuck one of the Good Samaritans with the stolen vehicle.

A carjacking incident turned fatal when a witness jumped in to assist the situation.

Around 10:30am Thursday, 28-year-old Ricky Driggers allegedly stole a vehicle in the 4100 block of W. 5th Street in Robeson County.

Lumberton police were en route to the carjacking call when they were informed the suspect had been involved in a hit-and-run in the parking lot of ‘Go Gas’ along the same street.

The suspect then attempted to carjack a second vehicle in front of a McDonald’s restaurant.

Police say Good Samaritans got involved to prevent the carjacking, but the suspect was able to steal the vehicle. In the process, Driggers reportedly intentionally stuck one of the Good Samaritans with the stolen vehicle.

38-year-old Jonathan Lecompte was killed in the incident.

Driggers has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and felony fleeing to elude. he is being held without bond.
