Small Plane Crashes Leaving Five People Dead

The plane crashed on a grassy median just off the interstate and then burst into flames.

A small plane crashed near Nashville’s Interstate 40 Monday night leaving five people dead.

The pilot made an emergency call to John C. Tune airport around 7:40pm, reporting engine trouble. It was cleared to make an emergency landing but shortly after the pilot radioed that the aircraft wouldn’t reach the airport.

The plane crashed on a grassy median just off the interstate and then burst into flames.

All five people on board perished in the accident. Their identities are not publicly known at this time.

The portion of the interstate surrounding the crash was closed as officials worked to clean the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the crash has been opened.
