U.S. Targets Russia With Hundreds Of New Sanctions
The actions seek to hold Russia accountable over the war as well as the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
President Biden announced Washington plans to issue over 500 new sanctions targeting Russia.
The U.S. will also impose new export restrictions on nearly 100 entities for providing support to Russia and take action to further reduce Russia’s energy revenues.
The measures come as February 24 marks the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The actions seek to hold Russia accountable over the war as well as the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
The measures will target individuals connected to Navalny’s imprisonment as well as Russia’s financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks and sanctions evaders across several continents.
The sanctions are the latest of thousands of targets following the start of the Russian/Ukraine war.
President Biden said, “They will ensure Putin pays an even steeper price for his aggression abroad and repression at home.”
