Former FBI Informant Accused Of Having Russian Intelligence Contacts

Alexander Smirnov claimed that executives within the Ukraine energy company, Burisma, paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million each around 2015.

An Ex-FBI informant charged with fabricating a bribery scheme involving President Biden, his son Hunter, and a Ukraine energy company, reportedly had contact with Russian intelligence-affiliated officials.

Prosecutors revealed the alleged contact as they urged a judge to keep Alexander Smirnov detained while he awaits trial. However, the judge allowed smirnov to be released from custody on electronic GPS monitoring.

Smirnov is accused of lying to his FBI handler. He claimed that executives within the Ukraine energy company, Burisma, paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million each around 2015. The accusation became central to the Republican impeachment inquiry in Congress.

The former FBI informant allegedly admitted in an interview after his arrest, that “officials associated with Russian intelligence were involved in passing a story” about Hunter Biden.

Smirnov faces charges of making a false statement and creating a false and fictitious record.
