The organization recently received permits for shipping container homes and have now started building the first one.

Habitat for Humanity of Georgetown County has found a solution to the affordable housing crisis.

The organization recently received permits for shipping container homes and have now started building the first one.

The structures are set to be 300 sq. ft. and available for those making as little as $16,000 a year.

Each home will be 8 x 40 ft. and have one bedroom, shower, bathtub, washer/dryer as well as other appliances installed.

The non-profit started building the first home at their administrative offices in Georgetown two weeks ago.

Habitat Georgetown is the only Habitat for Humanity in South Carolina offering shipping container homes.
