Kevin McCarthy Announced He Is Leaving Congress

The congressman added that now it is time for him to pursue his passion in a new arena, but he will never give up fighting for this country that he loves so much.

Two months after he was historically ousted as House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy announced he is resigning from Congress.

McCarthy has been in office for 17 years and spent much of it at the leadership table. He will now be leaving congress at the end of this year. He said, “I go knowing I left it all on the field as always, with a smile on my face. And looking back, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

The congressman added that now it is time for him to pursue his passion in a new arena, but he will never give up fighting for this country that he loves so much.

McCarthy’s decision is expected to narrow the House GOP’s already slim majority. How much control Republicans will have next year will depend on the outcome of several special elections.
