Horry County Police Officers Shot At During Traffic Stop

The officer was not able to chase the vehicle because there was a trainee officer on the scene and a potentially drunken suspect at the traffic stop.

Early Saturday morning, Horry County police officers were shot at during a traffic stop.

Around 3am, an officer was conducting a traffic stop and had their patrol vehicle and the suspect’s vehicle pulled to the shoulder in the eastbound lanes of Highway 9 in the Loris area.

During the stop, a white Dodge Charger approached from the westbound lanes and the officers said they heard gunshots and a ‘whizzing’ sound.

The officer was not able to chase the vehicle because there was a trainee officer on the scene and a potentially drunken suspect at the traffic stop.

There was no damage to the patrol vehicles and no one was hurt.

No arrests have been made at this time.
