A Surprising Benefit of Getting a Manicure
Researchers hope their findings help emphasize the importance of self-care.
Looking for a way to rationalize your manicure habit…? A new study shows a surprising mental health benefit that comes with getting your nails done.
According to a study published in “Frontiers in Psychology”, chatting about hobbies and daily life with nail techs is linked to increased positive emotions and relaxation. It’s called “superficial self-disclosure.” But, don’t dredge up too much…deeper discussions, especially about negative personality traits and personal struggles, had a negative result.
Researchers from two universities in Japan conducted an online survey with 500 women from their early 20s to late 30s. Participants rated their emotions. Researchers hope the findings help emphasize the importance of self-care that help us all relax, reflect and self-disclose in our fast-paced world.
