The Florence Co. Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents Of A Recent Phone Call Scam

The scammer informs the citizen that a bench warrant has been issued for their arrest for failure to report for jury duty.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is warning people of a recent scam.

Several complaints have been filed reporting phone calls from someone impersonating a deputy or an official.

The scammer informs the citizen that a bench warrant has been issued for their arrest for failure to report for jury duty. The caller then suggests that the person can avoid any trouble by paying a fine using a card or gift card immediately or they will be detained.

Officials shared the caller ID looks legit and may use the name of an actual deputy, but this is a scam. The office said it is not a collection agency for the court and would never ask you for money.

If you receive a call, you should hang up immediately.

The office also warned people to refrain from giving out personal information, social security numbers or any banking information over the phone.
