Horry County Council Passes Two Resolutions

The county could receive up to $2 million to hire the additional officers and place them in seven schools across the district.

The Horry County Council passed two resolutions at a meeting held Tuesday night.

The council passed a resolution to allow the Horry County Police Department to apply for a state-funded grant through the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

The grant would allow Horry County to hire seven additional school resource officers. The county could receive up to $2 million to hire the additional officers and place them in seven schools across the district.

Council members also approved $400 thousand from the American Rescue Plan Act to go toward a new bomb squad vehicle for Horry County Police. The current bomb squad vehicle is reportedly 20 years old and the department is in apparent desperate need of a new and reliable one.
