Williamsburg County Town Declared National Defense Area

Military personnel are expected to be in Indiantown for two more weeks in their efforts to recover parts from the jet.

Military personnel are continuing to recover parts of a F-35 fighter jet.

On September 17th, a pilot of the F-35 air-craft ejected from the jet in the North Charleston area but the debris was found around 60 miles away in Indiantown in Williamsburg County.

The town has now been declared a National Defense Area. This means non-federal land is closed to the public for the purpose of safe-guarding classified defense information or protecting defense equipment.

Four deputies in the area have been working 12-hour shifts to protect the scene where the plane crashed. They are off duty and being paid by a private company.
