Threads Blocks COVID Related Content From Search Engine
Words including 'Coronavirus', 'Vaccines' and 'Vaccination' will not have any results if searched through Threads search engine.
The newest social media platform, Threads, has blocked all searches related to COID-19.
Threads parent company Meta, rolled out its revamped search engine last week, only for users to come across a blank screen and a popup linking to the CDC’s website when they type any terms related to ‘COVID’ or ‘Long-COVID’. Words including ‘Coronavirus’, ‘Vaccines’ and ‘Vaccination’ will not have any results if searched through Threads search engine.
Meta said the limitation on its search engine is connected to anything they consider sensitive content. The decision to block COVID related searches comes as they currently lack confidence in the quality of results.
The tech giant does not want to spread miscommunication or false information. Meta said an update would be made once they are able to detect and confirm trustworthy content.
