Fort Bragg Renamed Fort Liberty

Fort Bragg was among nine bases that a congressional commission proposed renaming.

A military base in North Carolina has a new name.

Fort Bragg will now be called Fort Liberty U.S. as the army re-designated one of the largest military installations in the world.

The change follows a branch-wide push to rename bases that were named after confederate leaders.

The base was named after general Braxton Bragg who was an unpopular confederate general that was criticized for his temper, combative personality, and often subpar performance on the field.

Fort Bragg was among nine bases that a congressional commission proposed renaming.

While the others will be named after notable people, Fort Liberty will be the only facility named after a value.
