The team’s lease agreement with the city of Myrtle Beach and Horry County only runs through the end of this season. Some county leaders have expressed their desire to end the contract as the Pelicans ballpark is due for renovations that could be worth tens of millions of dollars. Some of the upgrades would include enhanced clubhouses and a kitchen. The city owns 70% and manages the park while Horry County owns the rest. The original 20-year lease agreement dates back to 1998, and it’s been extended twice.
