A Parent Filed A Complaint Against The Horry County School System
The parent filed a complaint that claims the school district is at fault for "grossly negligent" actions in its training and supervision over an aide.
The Horry County School system is being sued by a parent over alleged improper treatment of a student.
The incident that led to the lawsuit involved a 15-year-old autistic student and an aide that was attempting to control a habit by placing a rope with an “unknown ointment” over the student’s mouth. The aide did so, without running the solution by the parent first.
As a result, the parent pulled the student from the North Myrtle Beach Middle School and is now homeschooling the child.
The parent filed a complaint that claims the school district is at fault for “grossly negligent” actions in its training and supervision over the aide.
The parent is asking for an undisclosed amount in damages and for the court to deem an appropriate amount to cover the costs of homeschooling the teen as well as treatment for emotional distress.
The aide no longer works for the district.
