There has been a significant radioactive contamination discovered at an elementary school in Suburban St. Louis.
There had been a rise in concern of the contamination by a previous Army Corps of Engineers study and the report was confirmed by the Boston Chemical Data Corporation. The confirmation is based on samples taken a few months ago from Jana Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District.
The school stands in the flood plain of Coldwater Creek which was contaminated by nuclear waste from weapons production during WWII. Contamination samples were taken from the schools library, kitchen, classrooms, fields, and playgrounds. Inhaling or ingesting the radioactive materials can result in major injuries.
The school district stated that it will consult with its attorneys as well as experts to decided how to go about the recent discovery.
