NYC Mayor Expands Vaccine Exemption to Profession Athletes and Performers
Adams made the announcement at the New York Mets' home ballpark.
Unvaccinated players on New York City’s professional sports teams can now play games in their home venues. New York City Mayor Eric Adams expanded a vaccine exemption that previously only applied to players for visiting teams. Adams made the announcement at the New York Mets’ home ballpark yesterday. The vaccine mandate that had been in place for athletes and performers based in NYC most notably affected Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, who has yet to play in a Nets home game this season. The mandate would have blocked some New York Yankees and Mets baseball players from taking the field to start the season as well. In his announcement, Adams said “I’m going to make some tough choices. People are not going to agree with some of them”…adding…”I must move this city forward.”
