Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson won South Carolina’s gubernatorial race Tuesday.
Democratic state Rep. Jermaine Johnson conceded and now Wilson will succeed Gov. Henry McMaster, who is term-limited. He will be inaugurated in January as the 118th governor.
The four-candidate race included Wilson, Johnson, Green Party candidate Walid Hakim, and United Citizens Party candidate Michael Addison.
Wilson campaigned on eliminating the South Carolina’s state income tax, expanding school choice, improving roads and bridges, and increasing access to rural health care. His campaign also emphasized public safety, including tougher penalties for violent offenders and fentanyl-related crimes.
