Elon Musk has revealed a new product that aims to restore vision to the blind.

The trillionaire revealed two Neuralink brain implants that aim to restore vision and enable thought-based communication.

Neuralink’s Blindsight technology bypasses damaged eyes and optic nerves by transmitting camera-generated visual information directly to the brain’s visual cortex. It could enable those who are completely blind or have never seen to see.

Musk said the product is ready from an engineering standpoint and they are waiting on regulatory approval. The FDA granted blindsight “breakthrough device” designation in September 2024, accelerating regulatory review without authorizing commercial use.

The implant remains investigational, and Neuralink has not demonstrated restored vision in human patients.
