National 9/11 Memorial & Museum Adds 7th Moment Of Silence

That moment honors thousands whose lives were cut short by illness linked to the toxic aftermath of the attacks.

Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks that changed America.

As the nation marks the day of remembrance, the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum added a seventh moment of silence. That moment honors thousands whose lives were cut short by illness linked to the toxic aftermath of the attacks.

The new tribute recognizes first responders, recovery workers, survivors and lower Manhattan residents exposed to dangerous dust and debris in the days and months after September 11, 2001.

Over 8,000 people enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program have since died. Officials say tens of thousands continue to battle 9/11 related health conditions.

The six original moments of silence honor the events of that day including,

• 8:46am – Observance of time hijacked Flight 11 struck the North Tower
• 9:03am – Observance of time hijacked Flight 175 struck the South Tower
• 9:37am – Observance of time hijacked Flight 77 struck the Pentagon
• 9:59am – Observance of time of the fall of the South Tower
• 10:03am – Observance of time hijacked Flight 93 crashed in a Pennsylvania field
• 10:28am – Observance of time of the fall of the North Tower
