New TSA Program Could Allow Non-Ticket Holders Through Security

The new program, 'Gateside by TSA PreCheck,' will allow non-ticket holders to pass through security. It is free, but you must apply online.

The TSA has launched a new program at some U.S. airports.

Before 9/11, people without tickets generally could walk travelers all the way to their gate. Following the attacks, people without tickets could not pass through security after sweeping changes were made, including restrictions on access to secure areas.

The new program, ‘Gateside by TSA PreCheck,’ will allow non-ticket holders to pass through security. It is free, but you must apply online one to three days before your visit and receive approval before going to the airport.

If approved, you can go through the TSA PreCheck lane with an acceptable form of identification. The pass is valid for one day, and visitors can re-enter that day.

Members of other trusted-traveler programs who have a known traveler number also can apply for access to the gates. The program is only allowed at 13 airports but could expand in the coming months.
