A Dillon police officer was shot while attempting to arrest a wanted man.

The incident unfolded Thursday in the area of East Harrison Street and Highway 301 North where police located Steve Mason Jr..

Mason was wanted in connection with an incident that took place earlier in the day in which he allegedly pointed and presented a firearm at a convenience store in Dillon.

When officers tried to arrest him, gunfire was exchanged, and an officer was shot. The officer was taken to a hospital but has since been released and is doing well.

Mason was located Friday morning at a house on 20th Avenue and was taken into custody. His charges were not immediately available. The investigation remains underway.
