USPS To Impose Temporary Price Hikes Due To Middle East Conflict

The move comes as the cost of oil per barrel remains at more than $100 due to the conflict in the Middle East.

The USPS is imposing temporary price hikes amid the Iran war.

The Postal Service is adding an 8% surcharge on Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select services. It does not affect the price of first-class stamps or any other products or services.

The hikes will start on April 26, following approval by the Postal Regulatory Commission. The extra charge will remain in place through January 17, when the Postal Service will reevaluate its costs.

The surcharges will reportedly provide needed flexibility by helping to ensure that the actual costs of doing business are covered. The increase will help cover rising transportation related costs, including higher fuel prices.

The move comes as the cost of oil per barrel remains at more than $100 due to the conflict in the Middle East.
