Shelter-In-Place Orders Lifted Across Mexico Cities

El Mencho was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Shelter-in-place orders for Americans have been lifted in Mexico cities.

Earlier this week, a Mexican military operation led to the death of Nemesio Cervantes, also known as El Mencho. He was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of the most powerful criminal organizations.

The move sparked widespread violence in several states. Flights were canceled at both Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta’s airports and tourists were advised to stay put. Large portions of the country were under the shelter-in-place directives, including popular destinations like Cancun, Tijuana, and more.

The president of Mexico has now said things have calmed down, but overall, the country remains at a level 2 travel advisory.
