Are You a Superager?
They're described as somebody over the age of 80 whose memories stay sharp...
We’ve all met those people who seem to remember everything — even in old age. There’s a new study out that explains the science behind it.
Researchers have been studying these individuals for the past 25 years. They even have a name for them: super-agers. They’re described as somebody over the age of 80 whose memories stay as sharp as they were 30 or more years ago. Instead of losing their memory…as most people do when the brain ages and shrinks, their brains fight back.
The study looked at more than three-hundred super-agers, dozens of which donated brain tissue for research. The area of the brain that’s responsible for thought processes, attention and motivation is thicker… ompared to people decades younger. Super-ager brains also have bigger, healthier cells in the area essential for memory and learning.
