S.C. Supreme Court To Hear Alex Murdaugh’s Appeal For Murder Conviction

The former lawyer was convicted of killing his wife and son in a case that gained national attention.

The South Carolina Supreme Court has agreed to hear Alex Murdaugh’s jury tampering appeal.

The order means the case will head straight to the high court versus going through the lengthy court of appeals process.

The state Supreme Court could overturn a judge’s decision that denied Murdaugh’s attempt to get a new murder trial earlier this year.

The former lawyer was convicted of killing his wife and son in a case that gained national attention.

Murdaugh’s attorneys requested a new trial based on allegations that the now-former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill tampered with the jury by making comments implying Murdaugh’s guilt to jurors.

It was said Hill was “attracted by the siren call of celebrity” and made improper comments to the jury. She has denied the allegations, but has since resigned from her position.

It is unclear at this time when the high court will hear the appeal.
