Armed Robbery Suspect Sentence To 13 Years After Pleading Guilty

An Atlanta man has been sentenced to prison for conducting an armed robbery along the Grand Strand.

In February of last year, 34-year-old Michael Perez presented a loaded pistol at staff of Jacob the Jeweler in the Market Common. He demanded they open their rolex case.

The store owner witnessed the incident on surveillance video. As Perez made his way to the back, the owner engaged in a gunfight with him.

Perez was struck by gunfire but no one else was injured.

The suspect fled the store and was later located by police after seeking medical treatment at a hospital for his injury.

Perez pleaded guilty to armed robbery Wednesday and was sentenced to 13 years. He must serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for supervised release.
