A new judge has been appointed to oversee developments in the appeal and aftermath of the double-murder case involving Alex Murdaugh.
Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal will replace trial Judge Cliff Newman who asked to be taken off the case.
Toal will now oversee developments including handling allegations that Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill improperly interfered with during jury deliberations at Murdaugh’s original trial in which he was found guilty of killing his son, Paul and wife, Maggie.
