Delta Airlines Is Changing How Customers Qualify For Loyalty Program

Starting on January 1st, customers will earn the elite Medallion status through cash spent rather than miles flown.

Delta Airlines is changing how their elite member status is granted.

Previously to be apart of Delta’s loyalty program dubbed ‘SkyMiles’, a customer earned their status through Medallion Qualifying Dollars, Medallion Qualifying Miles, and Medallion Qualifying Segments, which look at the number of flights taken.

Now, starting on January 1st, customers will earn the elite Medallion status through cash spent rather than miles flown.

‘SkyMiles’ grants rewards such as unlimited complimentary upgrades, waived baggage fees, access to air-port lounges, and more.

The change comes as overcrowding became an issue among other situations.
