The Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has started erupting for the first time in two months.
Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, this is the third time this year that it has erupted. It’s alert level recently increased from a ‘watch’ to a ‘warning’ and the aviation level warning was increased to ‘red’.
The base of the volcano’s crater is spewing magma and releasing large clouds of smoke over a vast area.
The gases released by the eruption will lead to ‘volcanic smog’ in which winds are expected to assist in the negative impact on air quality. However, there is no current threat of lava to the public.
