Paqui Removes ‘One Chip Challenge’ From Shelves After Fatal Incident

Though the chip packaging advises it is for adults only and warns people with allergies to refrain from eating the chip, Paqui has decided to stop the sale of the product all together.

A tragic situation has prompted a snack company to remove one of their products from shelves nationwide.

Last week a 14-year-old Massachusetts boy participated in the viral ‘one chip challenge’. The trend involves someone eating Paqui’s extremely hot corn chip made with Carolina Reaper and Naga Viper peppers.

Harris Wolobah became ill after eating the chip and later died. His death is being blamed on complications from participating in the trend.

Though the chip packaging advises it is for adults only and warns people with allergies to refrain from eating the chip, Paqui has decided to stop the sale of the product all together.

A spokesperson from the company said the care they have for all of their consumers is the reasoning behind the removal of the ‘one chip challenge’ from the shelves.
