U.S. Women’s National Team Coach Resigns

Andonovski's contract ran through the end of this year and with that in mind, he and U.S. soccer agreed to part ways four months early.

The U.S. Women’s National Team coach has announced he is stepping down.

Vlatko Andonovski was first named coach of the U.S. in 2019 and took over a team fresh off back-to-back world cup titles. His resignation announcement comes less than two weeks after a Round of 16 loss to Sweden deemed his team the worst World Cup result in program history.

No U.S. team has ever finished worse than third at the Women’s World Cup, his finished around 11th. No U.S. team has ever scored fewer than 12 goals during the games, and his only scored four.

Over his four years as coach, he became the first to enter multiple major tournaments and win none of them. he has finished 51-5-9 during his time with the team and was 3-2-5 in major tournaments.

Andonovski’s contract ran through the end of this year and with that in mind, he and U.S. soccer agreed to part ways four months early. The search is now on for his replacement.
