Tips for Keeping Kids Cool at Practice
Doctors say it's important to remember the "three R's".
Hot weather and sports could be a dangerous mix for kids if they’re not staying cool. Doctors with the Cleveland Clinic say parents need to make sure their kids are staying hydrated before going to practices and are not skipping any meals. Encourage them to drink a bottle of water with breakfast…and to remember the “three r’s”: replacement, replenishment, and recovery. They recommend water for replacing fluids, and pickle juice or sports drinks to replenish electrolytes. Chocolate milk is also recommended at the end of a practice…because its carbohydrates, fats, and protein help the body recover.
